Right now, someone can ask ChatGPT about your business. It will answer. Confidently.
You have never seen that answer. Most business owners never do. It might describe you clearly and recommend you. It might describe you vaguely. It might mention a competitor's name in the same breath. Whatever it says, the customer hears it, and you do not.
This is not rare. When we scanned 500 small businesses for our Q2 2026 State of AI Search benchmark, we asked the big AI assistants about each one with no context, the way a real customer would. Every single business, all 500, had at least one gap in how AI describes its brand. Not most. All of them.
The answer you never get to hear
Here is what those gaps look like in practice. An assistant describes a specialist firm in generic terms that could fit anyone. It misses the one thing that makes a business different. It quotes a detail that changed two years ago. Or it simply reaches for a better-described competitor when the customer asks who to use.
None of this shows up in your analytics. There is no notification. The conversation happens, the customer decides, and the first you know of it is nothing happening at all.
Why the answer goes wrong
AI assistants build their answer from what they can read: your pages, your descriptions, the signals around your business. When those are vague or stale, the answer is vague or stale. Most sites we scanned were visible to AI assistants. Far fewer were described well enough to be recommended. That gap is the whole game.

Hearing the answer, then changing it
The fix starts with hearing what AI actually says about you, then changing the things that shape it. That is what AI My Site does on a schedule: we watch how the assistants describe you, fix what is feeding the weak answer, and show you proof of what changed. Answers move as the fixes land, typically over 30 to 90 days.
The conversation about your business is already happening. The only question is whether you are in the room.
