Wix AI SEO audit
See how ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini see your Wix site today — and get a plain-English plan to be found and recommended, using Wix’s own SEO tools for every fix.
How do you do an AI SEO audit on a Wix site?
To audit a Wix site for AI search, use Wix’s built-in SEO panel to check every page has a clear title tag and meta description, add or complete your structured data (Wix supports JSON-LD natively and auto-adds it to Stores, Bookings, Blog and Events pages), check your robots.txt in the SEO tools, and make sure indexing is switched on. Then ask ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini a buyer’s question about your market and see whether you’re named. Modern Wix renders server-side, so the old “Wix is bad for SEO” worry is largely outdated — but you still need the settings right. AI My Site checks all of this in one scan and links each fix to a step-by-step Wix guide.
What a Wix AI SEO audit checks
Three scores, each measuring something different — the same on any platform. Here’s exactly what goes into each one.
Technical Health
Can search engines and AI crawlers reach, read and index your pages at all?
- Crawlability and indexing — anything quietly blocking your pages from being seen
- robots.txt and AI-crawler access (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended and the rest)
- XML sitemap present and valid
- Canonical tags and duplicate-URL signals
- Title tags and meta descriptions — present, unique, well-formed
- Structured data (Schema.org / JSON-LD) present and valid
- Whether your content is readable without JavaScript
AI Readiness
How well your pages give an AI assistant what it needs to understand and quote you — judged for ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
- Answer-first copy and FAQ / Q&A blocks that AI can lift cleanly
- Question-phrased headings that match how customers actually ask
- Clear, consistent facts about your business (what you do, where, for whom)
- Valid, relevant structured data on your key pages — not just the homepage
- Descriptive image alt text and media
- Depth across your important pages, not a thin homepage alone
AI Visibility
What the assistants actually say about you today — measured, not guessed.
- How clearly ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can describe your business from what they already know
- The real test: we ask each assistant a buyer’s question from your market — with no brand name in it — and record whether you’re named
- Which competitors get named instead, and what sources get cited
- Tracked over time so you can see it move (or not) after you make changes
A note on honesty: the two on-page scores are judged against a fixed rubric, so small moves of a few points between scans are normal — we only flag a change when it clears that noise. And AI Visibility measures whether assistants can describe and name you, not a guaranteed ranking. No honest audit can promise you a spot.
How to audit your Wix site, step by step
Wix keeps almost everything in its own SEO tools — no plugins, no code needed for the basics. Here’s the order to check things, with where to click.
- 1
Set titles and meta descriptions in the SEO panel
Open a page’s SEO settings (Pages & Menu → ⋯ next to the page → SEO Basics, or the SEO panel) and set the Title Tag and Meta Description. On Premium sites, Wix’s AI meta-tag creator can suggest these from your page content — a useful starting point to refine, not accept blindly.
- 2
Set your heading tags correctly
On Wix, a heading’s visual style is separate from its HTML tag. Select a text element → Edit Text → SEO & accessibility → “Choose HTML tag” to set H1–H6. Make sure each important page has one clear H1 that states what the page is about, in customer language.
- 3
Complete your structured data
Wix adds preset JSON-LD markup to Stores product pages, Bookings services, Blog posts and Events automatically. For everything else, or to customise, go to the page’s SEO settings → Advanced → Structured Data Markup, where you can “Convert to custom markup” and use variables to pull in dynamic fields. This is how you give AI clean facts about your business.
- 4
Check robots.txt and AI-crawler access
Wix has a native editor: Dashboard → SEO → Tools and settings → Robots.txt Editor. Wix’s own guidance names bots like GPTBot and ChatGPT-User as examples to block or allow — but you can add any user-agent manually. If you want to appear in AI search answers, don’t block the AI search bots (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot).
- 5
Make sure indexing is on and your sitemap is submitted
Wix auto-generates a sitemap at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and updates it when you publish — but only if “let search engines index your site” is switched on. Run Wix’s SEO Setup Checklist to connect Google Search Console; Wix then submits your sitemap automatically.
- 6
Don’t worry about the old “Wix is bad for SEO” myth
Wix used to rely heavily on client-side JavaScript, which earned it a poor SEO reputation. That’s largely outdated — modern Wix renders pages server-side, so content is in the initial HTML that AI crawlers read. Focus your energy on the settings above and on genuinely useful, answer-first content, not on switching platforms.
The Wix reality: capable now, but the basics still need setting
Wix’s old reputation was earned when it was JavaScript-heavy; today it renders server-side and gives you native control over titles, headings, schema and robots.txt. The catch is that these tools do nothing until you use them — an indexing toggle left off, or thin homepage-only content, will hold you back regardless of the platform’s improvements. An audit tells you exactly which Wix settings are working against you.
That’s the manual version. AI My Site does all of this in one scan — across all your pages and all three assistants — then ranks every fix and links each one to a step-by-step Wix guide.

Wix AI SEO — common questions
Is Wix bad for SEO and AI visibility?
That reputation is largely outdated. It came from Wix’s early reliance on client-side JavaScript, which crawlers struggled with. Modern Wix renders pages server-side, so AI crawlers that don’t run JavaScript can read your content, and Wix gives you native control over titles, headings, structured data and robots.txt. The platform is no longer the limiting factor — your settings and content are.
Do I need to add code to Wix for structured data?
Usually not. Wix supports JSON-LD natively and auto-adds preset markup to Stores, Bookings, Blog and Events pages. For custom schema you use the built-in Structured Data Markup editor under a page’s SEO Advanced settings — you can edit the JSON-LD there without leaving Wix.
Will schema get my Wix site into Google’s AI Overviews?
Not by itself. Google states that no special schema, file or markup makes you appear in AI Overviews — the same indexing and quality signals as normal Search apply, and your page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. Structured data helps machines understand your pages; it’s a helper, not a guarantee of being cited.
How long until AI assistants start recommending my Wix site?
Weeks to a few months. After you fix your settings and content, AI systems still need to re-crawl and re-evaluate, and being named for unbranded buyer questions depends on signals from across the web. Steady, honest work beats any overnight promise.
